CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEK (30 JUL – 1 AUG)

SABC EDUCATION BABA INDABA (1 – 2 AUG)
The pitter-patter of thousands of tiny feet will resonate through the halls of the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) at the 2015 SABC Education Baba Indaba, which descends on the Mother City from Saturday, 1 to Sunday, 2 August 2015. Get the latest in parenting advice and products for babes and tots at this award-winning expo, which has something for everyone, from parents-to-be, grandparents, newbie moms and dads, event aunts and uncles.
SPIER WINELANDS BRIDAL FAIR (1 – 2 AUG)
Whether you’re on the hunt for something old, something new, something borrowed or something blue, you’ll be sure to find it (and everything else you could possibly need for your big day) at the fifth annual Winelands Bridal Fair. The event, which is hosted at the beautiful Spier Wine Farm from Saturday, 1 to Sunday, 2 August 2015, is a one-stop wedding shop and promises highly experienced event experts as well as exhibits that cover everything a blushing bride could need – venues, caterers, jewellers and more.
DIE BURGER MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE (2 AUG)
The epic 2015 Die Burger Mountain Bike Challenge in Stellenbosch will be putting cyclists of all ages and levels of experience through their paces at the tenth annual event on Sunday, 2 August 2015. The MTB race consists of six courses that take riders through scenic Stellenbosch farms in the Winelands region; the longest and most challenging route is a by-invitation-only 75-km track for the pros. There are also 60-km, 50-km (a new addition), 42-km, 30-km (the most popular and flattest route) and 15-km courses, so everyone has a chance to put the pedal to the metal. Participants and spectators can celebrate the end of the race with food, drinks and children’s entertainment; plus, there will also be awesome spot prizes up for grabs.
HERMANUS WINE AND FOOD FAIR (7 – 9 AUG)
The entire family will have a whale of a time at one of South Africa’s top 10 wine festivals, the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair, from Friday, 7 August to Sunday, 9 August 2015. This ultimate indulgence fiesta is a country-style celebration of reds and whites from the Elgin to Elim areas as well as the award-winning wines from the rest of the Overberg region. Visitors can not only sip and sample these fine vintages, but they can also purchase them at cellar door prices and have them shipped to anywhere in the world (including Antarctica, where they have indeed been delivered to). There will also be plenty of food – think organic cheeses, succulent meats from Le Roux Charcuterie, crispy flatbread from Piroschka’s Kitchen and Belgium treats from Gaboli.
NEDBANK CAPE WINEMAKERS GUILD AUCTION SHOWCASE (13 AUG)
Some of South Africa’s most talented winemakers showcase rare, limited editions reds and whites at the annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction Showcase on Thursday, 13 August 2015 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) ahead of the popular auction taking place in October. With 45 skilled vintners as members, the guild represents the height of top wine production in South Africa, and only wines specially crafted for the auction will go under the hammer. The showcase offers the public a rare opportunity to sample these exclusive vintages at an interactive, walk-around tasting hosted by the winemakers themselves.
OPEN DESIGN FESTIVAL (12 – 23 AUG)
Prepare your senses for the immersive experience that is the 2015 Open Design Festival Cape Town, an 11-day extravaganza set to pop up at City Hall, The V&A Waterfront and across the Mother City from Wednesday, 12 to Sunday, 23 August 2015. Following a super successful event in 2014, the mid-year fiesta is back with a slew of design-orientated events, expos, workshops, movie nights, tours and so much more. This year, there’s also a number of educational design components on offer, so if you’re an aspiring student of the arts then keep an eye on the programme.
ROBERTSON SLOW FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL (7 – 10 AUG)
Win(e)d down and take it easy at the 2015 annual Robertson Slow Food and Wine Festival from Friday, 7 to Monday, 10 August 2015. Devoted to the art of slow cooking, this yearly fiesta serves up the finest traditional country fare prepared in the homes of the winemaking families of the area. The 26 participating wineries and guest houses are pulling out all the stops and have planned unique menus, wine selections or activities for the auspicious affair, so there is something for everyone
