L’Apero Restaurant - Daddy’s little gem

L'Apero at the Grand Daddy Hotel has gone through many positive changes over the last year, starting with a name change and most recently getting a new floor and make over after a leak. Open again and thrilled with the new results, the team at the Grand Daddy are looking forward to showing Capetonians and visitors what great food and service is all about.

L'Apero is a colloquial form of the French word l'aperatief which is the name given to a drink, usually alcoholic, taken before a meal but it also relates to the social event that happens alongside the drink - catching up with friends and family and discussing the week’s events. This is what Ursula Assur, food and beverage manager at the Grand Daddy, had in mind when she came up with the name and concept for L'Apero soon after starting her new position last year.

Ursula passionately believes that eating and drinking is a social event, a coming together of people who share a love for food and wine and spending time together. Her first job was to come up with a new menu that embodies this belief. What she and her team of chefs have come up with is a delicious, uncomplicated menu that can be enjoyed intimately or family style. There are no quick meals at L'Apero!

There are still the firm favourites like the L’Apero burger, a deliciously succulent handmade beef patty topped with bacon and avocado (seasonal) and the Tandoori chicken wrap served with French fries or salad (or ask for some of both!).

Some of the must try newbies include the fillet of beef Carpaccio starter, grilled fish served on its own or with tender calamari and the absolutely decadent, chocolate brownies!

The kitchen team led by chefs Willie & Ollin, include Michael, Hardwork, Sydney, Lisakhanya and, the rose amongst thorns, Jessie. They are passionate about all things food and love the challenge of big tables and a busy restaurant.  

The team responsible for ensuring your every whim is catered for are Lisa, our quiet but extremely efficient day server, Omega and Pardon, our passionate and very knowledgeable  evening servers and Zou Zou and Elliot our two barista’s for whom it is always a competition as to who makes the best cappuccino. The jury is still out but I would not turn down a cup from either!

Whether you are looking for somewhere to ease into the day with a delicious and great value breakfast to a business lunch or a fun filled dinner with friends, L’Apero is the perfect venue.
